Local fans of UPN’s “Enterprise” have been out of luck so far this season.

Now, however, we can bring you some good news. KSKN-22 (WB22) will rebroadcast every new “Enterprise” episode this season, Saturdays at 8 p.m. beginning this week.

In addition, KSKN will repeat the season premiere episode and last week’s episode of this “Star Trek” spinoff in a two-hour block this Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m.

“We’re responding to viewers and trying to help out as much as we can,” said Meg Antonius, KREM/KSKN programming director.

The 8 p.m. Saturday shows will be repeats of the new episodes, which air on UPN stations the previous Wednesdays.

Why are these repeats necessary in the Spokane market? Read on.

UPN update

They’re necessary because the region’s new UPN affiliate, KQUP-24/47, is still not on cable systems in the region – and is barely on the air, too.

However, things started looking better last week. On Tuesday night, the KQUP-LP (Channel 47) transmitter in Post Falls finally started broadcasting its UPN signal. That has provided relief to some “Enterprise” and “Buffy” fans, but hardly total relief.

The signal supposedly covers the Spokane-Coeur d’Alene area, but this is a low-power signal. Spotlight has already heard from a number of local UPN fans who are not picking it up well, if at all. Getting a better antenna and/or fiddling with your old one might help, but we’re not guaranteeing it.

Equity Broadcasting, which owns the station, said it has agreed to terms with AT&T Broadband to carry KQUP on cable in Spokane. However, it may still take another 30 days to actually get the station on the cable lineup. (We should point out that they have been saying essentially the same thing for the past 30 days.)

Said a weary Doug Krile of Equity Broadcasting: “I can’t even count the number of phone calls I’ve gotten on this.”
