Last year, Inland Northwest residents contributed $188,000 to help the annual Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Weekend Telethon raise a total of $44 million.

The telethon, aired locally on KREM-TV, Channel 2, beings at 8 p.m. Sunday and ends at 4 p.m. Monday. Nationally, the live program will air from the Sahara Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Local segments will be broadcast for 20 minutes each hour.

Money raised by the event helps with research and patient service programs for thousands of people with muscular dystrophy, a neuromuscular disease.

The local goal this year “is to top last year,” said Bruce Felt, telethon coordinator for KREM-TV.

Newscasters Nadine Woodward, Peter Colford and Rich Henkels will host from Cavanaugh’s Inn at the Park in Spokane.

Sports reporter Jim McLaren will host from Coeur d’Alene and reporter Laurine Jue from Moscow, Idaho.
