A contract dispute over the show “The A-Team” has led to a $1.6 million lawsuit against a Spokane television station.

MCA Television Limited, based in Universal City, Calif., wants KAYU to pay all past-due and future payments on 11 TV programs it has distributed to the Spokane station.

In a suit filed in U.S. District Court, lawyers for MCA say KAYU owes more than $160,000 in unpaid bills since October. It also asks the court to require advance payment of another $1.5 million for the same programs, plus payment in full for “The A-Team,” which is not yet carried by KAYU (Channel 28 in Spokane).

Robert Hamacher, KAYU president and general manager, said the suit is MCA’s reprisal for his station’s refusal to sign a contract for “The A-Team.”

What MCA wants, Hamacher said, his for KAYU to accept unsatisfactory terms and conditions of a contract the two parties have negotiated for more than two years.
