A Seattle communications company has bought Spokane independent TV station KAYU for $7.7 million.

Robert Bingham, president of Bingham Communications Group, announced the transaction at a news conference Thursday. He said no immediate changes in programming or operations are expected.

KAYU (Channel 28) was started in 1982 by partners Robert Hamacher and D. Lane Guin. Hamacher will continue as general manager and Guin as sales manager.

The station has 30 employees and recently affiliated with Fox Broadcasting Network.

The Federal Communications Commission must approve the sale before ownership is transferred, said Hamacher.
