Independent TV station set

December 18, 1981

Spokane Daily Chronicle

Spokane will have a new, independent UHF television station, which is expected to be on the air by January 1983.

Robert H. Hamacher, general sales manager of KSTW-TV in Tacoma, said yesterday that he and three partners have been given a construction permit for Channel 28. Hamacher said his partners are Lane Guin, Seattle sales manager for KSTW-TV; Richard Sheingold, Chicago; and Peter Jones Seattle.

Hamacher said he and Guin will move to Spokane to start the planning for the new station.

He said they own property on Krell Hill (Tower Mountain) and hope to have that for their antenna site.

He said the station will feature movies and syndicated shows, much the same as KSTW-TV. There will be no news department at first, he said, adding, “We hope we can work into that.”
