October 29, 1964

Spokane Daily Chronicle

Sen. Warren G. Magnuson, D-Wash., gave the dedicatory talk today at the official opening of the new KXLY RadioTelevision Broadcasting Center.

The senator was one of many local and state officials who took part in ribbon-cutting ceremonies at the new studios.

The three-level structure with 24,000 square feet of floor space is on a promontory of lava rock at W500 Boone, just across from the Coliseum. It has one large television studio, plus space for a second smaller studio, Wayne F. McNulty, vice president and general manager of Spokane Radio, Inc., Spokane Television, Inc., the broadcasting company, said.

The studio operations were moved to the new building from the old address at W315 Sprague about six weeks ago.

A grand opening for the public Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. will be carried through the succeeding Sundays during the next month.

On hand for the ceremonies were Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Murphy, Superior, Wis., owners of the Morgan Murphy Group, which owns the Spokane broadcasting company.
