Educational TV to Serve Area
Spokane Daily Chronicle
Spokane’s educational television station, a city public schools project, will serve one of the largest areas of any installation in the country, Supt. William C. Sorenson yesterday told the Municipal League Education Committee.
He said the Federal Education Television Committee has informed him that Spokane’s broadcasting radius of 75 to 80 miles will give it an exceptionally large area, extending into Idaho.
“The programs to be beamed over Channel 7 will be financed with the help of participating districts,” he said. “We are planning a four-way program that will serve the classrooms, in-service training, adult education and college-related subjects.”
He said the project, scheduled for opening in September 1963, has the advantage of four years of experimentation here as well as a recent gift of $68,000 in equipment.
