Spokane Daily Chronicle

The Federal Communications Commission gave its approval today to a $3,250,000 cash sale of KXLY-TV and KXLY AMFM radio station in Spokane.

The new owner is the Morgan Murphy Group, headed by Morgan Murphy, Superior, Wis. The group operates four television stations, a radio station and a daily and weekly newspaper chain in Wisconsin.

Selling the licenses for the two Spokane stations are Northern Pacific Radio Corp. and KELP Television Corp. Principals in the two corporations are Joseph Harris and Norman Alexander, New York businessmen.

Manager to Remain

James R. Agostino will remain as general manager of the two stations, both of which will be operated by a new firm, Spokane Television, Inc.

Agostino said the Spokane purchase provides the Murphy group with the largest market in its chain of operations, which include stations in Madison, Eau Claire and Green Bay.

Application for the license transfer to the new corporation was made to the FCC in October, Agostino said.
