KNEW’s TV Bid Filed Too Late

July 15, 1952

Spokane Daily Chronicle

An application by the Inland Empire Broadcasting Company (KNEW) for television Channel 4 in Spokane could not be considered because it was filed too late, Federal Communications Commission officials told the Associated Press in Washington, D.C., yesterday afternoon.

The FCC officials said the KNEW application was filed yesterday.

The Symons Broadcasting Company (KXLY) was granted a permit by the FCC last Friday to build a television station for Channel 4. At the same time, radio station KHQ was granted a permit for Channel 6. The FCC said the applications were uncontested.

KNEW officials had announced a plan for a television station to be operated by a new corporation, Television Spokane, Inc.
